~ printing in spot colours - type in context ~




Above is an example of how you can use Photoshop to convert images to duotone. The benefit of using duo tone is when commercially printing you can decide to print with just one or two inks which will reduce the overall cost. You can also select pantone colours and create a publication/design that just uses the selected pantone colours.






Another way you can reduce print cost by using less inks is through the channels panel. You can remove channels as you can see above and even completely change them to pantone selected colours. This method is also how you set up a document to be commercially UV spot varnished. 

In the context of 'type in context' the duotone idea will be taken in consideration when thinking about reducing costs and the channels for the possibility of using a spot varnish finish for the design.
